School-festival at "Colegio de Unesco"

For the 12.10.04, the secondary school "Colegio de Unesco", who is attended by two circus kids of the elder group organized a school-festival in the gymnasium. The event was titled with "other cultures", so that we had the chance to enjoy Indian dances and guitar-songs of foreign cultural environments.

"Los jóvenes del sueño" should finish this spectacle with a half-hour performance. It was one of the circus group itself, who organised everything so that the kids had the change to perform. An other thing that was worked out on the own initiative of the group was the course of the presentation. They portrayed with the aid of music, costumes and naturally their circus-tricks the course of the conquest of Costa Rica by the Spaniards.

The only difference: This time the natives should vanquish the Europeans. Frequently during the performance, a murmur from the approximately 600 young spectators could be perceived. The circus kids were highly motivated as they were watched

by many persons who they meet daily but who never got the chance to see their skills. This show was especially important because this way finally the teachers had a chance to see what the circus is all about. They often give the young persons a day off for greater circus activities but till know not seldom with reservation. This teachers observed the activities in the center of their gymnasium with opened mouthes. Although, surely, the minority of the spectators got what this within short time developped plot was about, it was a successfull performance.

As a reward a teacher distributed vouchers for the school-canteen and finally paied the kids the taxi

back to their barrio Tierra Prometida.
