Project Description
In 1995 six representatives from the Brunca region founded UNAPROA,
the Union of Friends for the Protection of the Environment. Most
of the members are farmers and smallholders from some thirty villages,
including indigenous communities whose lands lie on the western
slopes of the Talamanca mountain range. Some of UNAPROA's projects
include protection of the region's water basins, promotion of organic
farming and ecotourism. Meetings are held regularly in the member-built
office in the community of Finca Sonador. Every two years there
is an international ecoforum.
