Possibilities for volunteer work

  • You can help out with various existing projects or begin your own. Most projects fall into two categories, teaching and labour. For example, one can teach English, German, sewing, art, music, computers or kindergarten classes, or one can help out by picking coffee, cutting sugarcane, harvesting corn and beans, gardening or taking part in construction projects.

  • You may also be able to assist archaeologists working in the area.

  • Some students, such as those studying agriculture, can take the opportunity to complete their practical studies at the Finca. For example, one can study organic or subsistence agriculture, learn about tropical plants such as coffee and cacao, etc.

  • The Finca is also an alternative for Austrians who must complete their civil service. For more information see www.auslandsdienst.at.

  • One can come to the Finca in order to do research for one's dissertation or other major projects, such as scientific research.

  • List of projects

For $8.00 US a day, your lodging and food will be provided for by one of the local families. Volunteers who work in the fields (picking coffee, cutting sugarcane, etc) get paid the same amount as the inhabitants.
