Vth Youth and Arts Festival of Longo Mai - 22-28 of january 2007

For the fifth year, the small village of Longo Mai, Costa Rica, received the "Arts and Youth Festival". This year, we had a huge participation from children from the poorest communities of Perez Zeledon, along with youngs volunteers from many countries, among them France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Venezuela, El Salvador, Colombia, Costa Rica.

The comunity of Longo Mai, located in the south of Costa Rica, at the kilometer 164 of the panamerican highway, enlight an alternative project of comunitary living, in peace and harmony with the nature. Today, 400 people are living there together; most of them are refugees from El Salvador and Nicaragua who ran away from the war in the eighties.
This fifth festival enjoyed, as in the last years, a great diversity of free workshops such as circus, dance, theater, painting, music and literature; it even including a new sculpture workshop, new source of experimentation crossing reality and nature. The activities also included cinema and a cycle of conferences about actual political realities.
For the musical side, we enjoyed the performances of the singers Esteban Monge and Max Goldenberg, and also the band from Perez Zeledon Don Nadie. The Granada Circus and Comedy School contributed performing his excellent show, among with the Circo Fantazz-Tico from Perez Zeledon.

One more festival, one more opportunity to believe in alternatives and arts as a way of changing the established realities. One more year of solidary buildings and fraternity. A festival with an artistic flavor, to keep on loving the hope.
